TV47 Kenya: How used cooking oil becomes biodiesel

What happens with the cooking oil after it has been used to fry? A recent program on the Kenyan TV channel "TV47 Kenya" explains to the public how their used cooking oil is collected locally, processed in our plants and then recycled into biodiesel. In the program, our PR expert Harald Sigl also warns of the harmful effects of used cooking oil on health.

The disposal of used cooking oil has long been a dilemma in Kenya, with far-reaching consequences for the environment and the health system. The demand for fried foods in Kenya remains high. The public is largely unaware of the environmental and health implications. The Kenyan TV channel "TV47 Kenya" is tackling the problem - and presenting the solution: Muenzer Kenya.

Muenzer Kenya as a solution to the problem

Founded three years ago, Muenzer Kenya Pvt. Ltd. has since established itself as a successful used cooking oil collector. We provide a sustainable and effective solution by working with local restaurant and hotel operators in the major cities of Nairobi and Mombasa. The collected oil is carefully processed in our facilities and shipped to Europe for further use.

Benefits for more than just the environment

By converting used cooking oil into renewable energy, we are actively helping to reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector. After all, every kilogram of used cooking oil saves three kilograms of CO2. In Kenya, however, collecting used cooking oil is less about making a contribution to climate protection. In Kenya, the health aspect is much more important.

"Used or expired cooking oil in the fryer causes serious health problems drop by drop. It contains dioxin or trans fats, for example, and promotes the development of cancer or heart disease," warns Harald in the TV report.
