Kick-Off Event of “Freshly Fried” in Chittagong

Awareness Campaign at University of Science & Technology Chattogram (USTC)

Following a number of short lectures about the negative environmental and health impacts of Used Cooking Oil at the University of Science & Technology Chattogram, a vivid exchange between the students, professors and stakeholders took place. Despite the vent taking place on a Saturday, it was impressive to see the sheer amount of participants and the many questions asked – showing the motivation of the youth to fight health hazards Bangladeshis are exposed to on a daily basis.

At the event’s end, one of the students remarked that, “From now on, wherever I go, I won’t hesitate to question the origin of the cooking oil used!” This demonstrates that raising awareness is essential to eliminate Used Cooking Oil from the food chain.

Dr. Shah Samiur Rashid (Associate Professor, University of Science and Technology Chittagong) is speaking about the hazardous impacts of Used Cooking Oil (UCO) on human health & the environment.

Eminent Vice Chancellor, Dr. Eng. Md. Jahangir Alam (University of Science and Technology Chittagong) is receiving a token gift from Mr. Harald Sigl (Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Münzer Bioindustrie GmbH).

Interested students gather for a group picture after a successful, awareness-generating lecture on the hazards of used cooking oil on human health and the environment.
